How are you at momentarily "un-commiting" yourself from things that are important to you?

You might have just read that and thought to yourself,  first of all, that’s not a real word, and isn’t that the same thing as quitting? Well, no… in fact it is not. It’s called pressing pause. The trouble is, we don’t always know how to start again and a pause becomes a complete stop. 

It turns out I may have been doing too much for too long and it was keeping me from fully processing and healing from some of the trauma I have experienced.


About two therapy sessions (newbie here) I brought up how I was having a hard time doing anything related to growing my coaching business, and most importantly, the Roots Change Podcast. 

I wanted to, it still mattered to me – perhaps more than ever. But every time I set some time to actually do the things I was committed to, I froze.

My body felt stiff and heavy. 

I felt ashamed. Guilty. Like a freaking fraud. I knew all of that was wrong and I verbalized that to Teresa (that’s her name). She asked in what ways I was still meeting my own needs and I started going through the list of self-care practices I had been going to and for the first time in my life, was encouraged in a roundabout way to just stop everything I didn’t have to do.

Could I just press pause? 


Well, if you’re a regular listener you know that is exactly what I’ve done.  And I would lie if I told you it was an easy choice. that I wasn’t afraid. 

So today, I want to share with you why that was exactly what I needed and remind you of this.

We have an incredible guidance system. Everything we could ever need to navigate our life is right here at our disposal. All we have to do is tune in and listen. 

Sometimes that means pressing pause to hear.
