Quick question and answer honestly. When you get sick do you act as if you aren’t?

Do you tend to just push through because (insert your go to reason) and if you’re sick then what?

As much as I want to hear people reply with something like no, when I’m sick I slow down, I rest, I do whatever is required to heal myself – but I know for a lot of folks that is not the case… so if that’s you, some of the reasons scrolling across your head right now are valid.

I know it’s not easy for a lot of us to take it easy.

We have a job to do. Food to put on the table. A family to tend to. If we don’t do it, then who?

That’s a shitty place to be and I see you. I want you to be supported. I want there to be people in your life who show up when you need them. But mostly, I want you to find ways to show up for yourself. Because you can. It might be just giving yourself permission to not do something that needs to get done. Or picking up the phone to actually ask for help even though you are almost certain that help won’t show up.

Regardless of what your circumstances are, if you feel like you must press on when you are clearly unwell, I want to talk to you about my experience with that. Get to the root of what was actually hidden beneath the thoughts of “there’s nothing wrong with you”, “if not you, then who”.

Because when we heal that, we heal a whole lot more.
